129784 I just finished Ohio by Stephen Markley Ohio and think it might be on my lifetime list of best books. I can't imagine the luck of reading a better book this year. It's coming Aug 21st, so there's probably still time to request it from NetGalley.

How many of you are reading more than one book at a time.?"

I always have several books going at the same time.
1) Short story anthology for dipping into when I need a break from
2) Fiction I am currently reading
3) Nonfiction political/resistance book
4) Nonfiction science/math book

129784 I got sick last November and was hospitalized for a week in early January. Naturally, I read less and fell behind. Add to that, for some reason post-hospitalization I have had some problems with vertigo that has slowed down my reading. I had always managed to publish reviews two weeks ahead of the publication date, but suddenly I was far behind (50 books). I went to the part of the revew where you answer whether you want to talk to author, would buy the book, and wrote a note to all of the books I am behind on explaining I have been ill and that I hope to get to their book as soon as I can and review it.

Of course, being behind, I have not been requesting any but the most compelling books and sequels to others I have reviewed, but almost all of my requests have been approved. I am requesting far fewer, but with good success, even though I am still some 20 books behind. I think open communication and transparency is always best.

129784 I am currently reading on my Kindle, The Cold Summer, a police procedural inspired by the real Mafia war in 1970s Italy.

I am also reading in hardcover The Sting of the Wild by the scientist who developed the insect sting index by letting insects sting him.

I like to have a short story anthology Santa Cruz Noir from the Akashic Noir series, because I think of short stories as book snacks that I pick up between book meals. lol

I am also reading A Nation Unmade by War I read it in small bites because the current situation is so infuriating.

Lastly, I am reading Marking the Sparrow's Fall: The Making of the American West and probably will never finish. There is one more story left and once I read it, I will have read everything by Wallace Stegner and the thought is just unbearable. I seem to prefer leaving that one story unread to not having anything more to read. I read this far in the book in a short time last year, but just could not make myself turn to the next and last story.

129784 I used to belong to a book group and we came up with our Reader's Rules. Our consensus was every book deserves fifty pages to capture your interest. After that, it's lost any claim on your time.

129784 Hi, I just joined this NetGalley Support Group. I like to read literary, historical, mystery, and historical fiction. I like reading history, politics, economic, science and cooking in nonfiction. I love short stories. I suppose I would probably be a more successful book reviewer if I had a niche, but I am not a niche reader.

129784 I have been reviewing books on my blog a little over a year. Several of the books have come from NetGalley. I wish I knew how to promote my blog more effectively.
