129784 Hello everyone! I'm an avid reader who has managed to read about 45 books a year on average for the past four years since moving to Los Angeles — I lived in Chicago for 30+ years prior to that, but I'd have to do some digging into my Goodreads lists to figure out my annual reading tallies prior to 2016.

I read 52 books in 2020 and my goal is to read at least 64 in 2021. (A buddy of mine read 125 last year and my competitive streak makes me want to increase my reading tally to a triple-digit figure if I can manage it.)

I read approx. two non-fiction books for every one fiction work and I'd like to balance my reading a bit more going forward — if not 50/50, then no more than three non-fiction for every two fiction.

In 2020 I began to read Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels (accounting for about one-third of the fiction I read last year); I also re-dedicated myself to reading science fiction, which I'd gotten away from in recent years (due primarily to the amount of non-fiction I've been reading).

I read a fair number of books that could be categorized under political/social issues. Creativity/self-improvement/psychology comprise another area of interest, and as a writer (in particular as an aspiring screenwriter), I read a fair number of books having to do with film & television. I play guitar & piano (neither particularly well, to be honest), so I've taken to reading a few books to help me improve on each instrument.

Lastly, I often read to relax and have a laugh, so comic books (graphic novels & trade paperbacks) and fiction laced with humor often find their way to my nightstand.

I first joined NetGalley in 2014 (give or take a year). I've gotten some great reading material from the site over the years, but I've been lax in reading these books (let alone writing reviews — my % reviewed is wretched) so I'm committing to reading 1-2 NetGalley books a month (and posting reviews for each one) to hold up my end of the bargain.
