170111 Yeah! I love Enders Game. I think I read the first 3 or 4. Such a good series.

170111 This group is loosely centered around female authors who are funny, but are there other books you're reading or have read that you'd recommend by male authors or even serious females? lol.

I'm really into the sci-fi/fantasy genre, myself, and here are a few of my favorites:

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

170111 Hello! I'm not going to make it to the meeting tonight, so I thought I'd start a discussion on here. It might be good for our out of towners to get in on the discussion as well!

I loved this book! Of course!

The stories that resonated most with me were her childhood. I related to her status of drama nerd and perpetually being in love with gay men who weren't out yet. Her anecdotes about her dad reminded me of my dad. While easy-going most of the time, if you crossed my dad... he got scary... we called it, "Big Bad Dad."

Something else that stuck out to me was when she told the story about Amy Poehler saying something really crass and Jimmy Fallon said, "Stop it! It's not cute! I don't like it!" And Amy snaps at him, "I don't fucking care if you don't like it." And to me, that sort of sums up this book and sums up how I feel on a day-to-day basis. I'm not a particularly "lady-like" lady and sometimes that makes me feel self-conscious, so to hear a story like that gives me courage to be who I am and not to give a fuck what other people think. I think y'all can relate. Can I get an AMEN?!?!

What did you guys think? What was your favorite story?

170111 Hi everyone! I'm starting this thread to get everyone's suggestions for what we should read next. It's helpful if you post a link to your book and let us know why you want to read it!

I'll start:

I'd like to read Super You by Emily V. Gordon. It comes out on September 29th. Emily V. Gordon is a hilarious woman. My own feminist ideals align with hers quite nicely. She is on a podcast I listen to about video games and other nerdy stuff called The Indoor Kids, which she co-hosts with her husband, Kumail Nanjiani (of Silicon Valley fame). She describes this book as a self-help book geared towards women about self-esteem that has a slight super hero theme. Here's the Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
