Below you will find information about the swap.
You're Invited to: The 3rd Annual Holiday Book Swap!
Who: The Boston Office (and remote employees in the Boston area!)
What: 3rd Annual Holiday Book Swap
What: 3rd Annual Holiday Book Swap
When: Thursday, December 7, 2017 @ 2pm
Where: The Hub
Sign Up: Fill out the spreadsheet in the email
Co-Hosts: Ben, Monique, & Julia
Books: They’re the reason we’re all here. So this year, share a favorite book with your colleagues!
Here’s how it works:
1. Sign up on the spreadsheet, by December 4th, to participate (Please also note if you will be bringing a snack!).
2. Accept the invitation (sent in a separate email) to add the event to your calendar.
3. Choose a book you loved reading that you feel others would also enjoy.
4. Either buy that book (for $20 or less) or give your own gently-used copy (no marginalia or falling apart pages please!).
5. Wrap it up with a card or piece of paper INSIDE the book, with your name and why you’re sharing this book—everyone will read these aloud after they unwrap the book, so make sure it’s something you don’t mind sharing!
6. During the day of Thursday, December 7th, bring your wrapped book to the Hub and leave it on the rectangular wooden tables.
7. If you bring a snack, please bring it with you to the swap just before it begins.
8. We will gather at 2pm for the swap & snacks. You will draw a number when you arrive, which will determine the order in which we choose the wrapped books from the pile.
Our book swap is a Yankee Swap. For those who are unfamiliar with that process, please read below:
You choose from the pile of wrapped gifts in order of the number you drew. #1 goes first, #2 second, etc. When person #2 opens their gift, they can choose to either keep the book or SWAP it for #1’s book. The higher the number you get, the more choices of books you have! At the end, #1 gets to choose from ALL the books.
You’ll read the card inside the book when you open it, so we’ll know who brought the book and why they shared it. This was a lot of fun the past few years—we hope you can make it to this year’s!
Again, please sign up on the Google sheet by Monday, December 4th if you’d like to participate, so we can anticipate if we have enough snacks & can prepare the numbers.
If you’re unable to participate after you’ve signed up, please go back and delete your name or let us know in advance of the event on December 7th.
This year, Ben K., Monique F., and I are co-hosting. Let any of us know if you have questions or comments! If you know of anyone from Boston who we forgot to invite—whether they are office-based or remote—please let us know.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Julia, Monique, & Ben
