Once. I read a book I hated...I thought it was stupid and the humor was lame.
A gr buddy of mine wrote a glowing review about the humor and even quoted some lines that I caught myself chuckling at. So I asked her what she liked about it and I re-read the book with the mindframe that it's a silly humor, rather than a serious book with dumb misunderstandings...the misunderstanding was mine, it would seem, as I liked it better with a fresh perspective.

I absolutely agree. I don't want to feel attacked just because I was unimpressed by a book/author. I am honestly afraid that any book review with less than 3 stars will get the hounds released against me. I had an author actually write a book for me because I didn't like the one he sent to me to review. He was incredibly nice and sweet...but the author's note says he wrote it for me and he hopes this book makes up for the last one...is that creepy or nice?

And I also agree with Lethal (waves!) that I'm afraid anything I post will now be up for dissection.

I started out with only a few sentences on my reviews just for me, to maybe go back and remember why I liked/disliked a certain book...then one day, someone "liked" my review! and more people...and now I write pages for everyone to read :) Then I got a blog and I review there too...reviewing is helpful as well. I can't tell you how many times I've brought up reviews on GR to see either the book sounds like my taste, or if any of my friends would want to do a buddy-read with me.
