Sad news followed by recommendations from Parade Magazine! And The Booker Short List. Plus, do you hate it when a series isn't continuing the story directly? And we check in on our September read of Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh.

Wel..." Is that a different podcast or the one from Tortoise Media. I read that rolling Stone article and seemed to rely on Tortoise for everything. Tortosie seems legit but it is one source and with something this big I'd like to see a little more is all.

Intersting point Gary. I’m a quinquagenarian straight cis white guy who worked in Tech my whole life, married to a Southeast Asian woman and I studied Russian in college.
I found the stories complex and at times opaque but I was fascinated them. They didn't remind me much of anything Asian most of the time, but more like a Lovecraft or Ballard.

Having grown up with a Brazilian and Peruvian telling my Dad in the 1980s that they found it annoying that people from the US exclusively used "American" to refer to themselves has always lived in my mnind as an example that using American only to refer to the US is rather inaccurate and exclusive. It is new to me to hear of people being upset at being called American when they are not because I have in fact never heard of such a thing. However if you mean people from Canada or Mexico being mistaken for being from the US and being assumed to be "American" then I totally understand what you mean.

Yeah. I’m going to beat myself up because I know what Britain is and I knew what I meant to say when I said that which was it’s not even all of Britain. Sigh. This is just the way my brain works. It will fade after a few days. Thanks for being understanding.

I’m still entirely bugged about this because I do know my geography and I know the differences very well. Like I literally can’t sleep right now I’m so mad about it. And I don’t even remember what I said. All I can do is threaten that if any of you confuse Illinois Iowa and Indiana I will not go easy on you. ;)

I was fairly certain I said Ireland didn't love being lumped in with the British Isles, which was just an opinion mind you and that Scotland and Ireland wouldn't really love being lumped in with the English. But maybe I made a verbal typo and said Britain?
In any case I know all of this very well and try my best to be an example of the person not from there who does know it so it pains me greatly that I failed. I think from now on I'll just say I don't know anything. It's easier. ;)
