51124 Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My!

Both of my books are on KDP select, which means free borrowing for Prime members. They are also listed at just $2.99 for Kindle.

Alexondra Meyers, known to her friends as Xoe, had a normal life. She liked her normal life, but there's a new guy in the small town of Shelby, OR, and he is anything but normal. Before Xoe can say, "Werewolf," her world is turned upside-down. Between a dark secret in Xoe's past, a best friend who's been scratched, and not to mention highschool, Xoe has a lot of thinking to do. She has to choose who she can trust, and fast . . . tomorrow's the full moon.

51124 @Misty agreed. It was kind of difficult for me to transition to the classics after all of my Laurell K. and Kim Harrison, but they are classics for a reason (most of them anyway...I still stand by the fact that the Lord of the Rings is the most boring book ever).

51124 Yay for new recommendations! @Natasha I know how that goes. I do a lot of editing work. It's just somehow not as fun when you HAVE to read a book, regardless of how good it is. That's always been my problem in College. Instead of the assigned reading, I read all the books that I want, then when I read the assigned stuff after the fact, I realize how awesome it is, and wonder why I just didn't read it when I could have gotten credit for it.

51124 @Mandy I definitely get what your saying. I've been told by multiple people that are close to me, that when they read my books, they feel like they're hanging out with me.
And you have a sleeve of tattoos for reals? Pictures! I'm obsessed with looking at tattoo pictures. I just got my fifth one (tattoo, not a picture of one) last Saturday, but I haven't ventured out onto my arms yet.

51124 @Natasha That would all depend on what you deem appropriate. I don't have any kids, and I was pretty much left to my own devices as far as reading and whatnot growing up. Push has a very inspirational message about learning and not letting people bring you down, but it also includes ample cursing, scenes of incestual rape, and a great deal of disturbing imagery.
My books on the other hand are great for all ages...just sayin ;). Shameless self-promotion aside, yes, I recently came out with a second book, a sequel to Xoe, and am hard at work on the third.
The chat board is definitely a good idea that I will look into doing. I've mainly just had people come across my page and message me directly. As a self-published author, I know how difficult it can be to get word of your books out there.

@Mandy Yeah, I've been branching out of my preferred genre quite a bit (mainly since I've been reading several books a week and I just can't find enough!) So I'll definitely be looking into your recommendations. I've been meaning to read some J.R. Ward for a while, as I've heard many good things, so perhaps I'll start there ;). And congrats! 13,000 words is no meager feat. Are you going to publish it when you are through?

51124 @Heather bahahaha! Severe mocking!!
@Mandy I want to go to New Orleans so bad! I got to spend a little time in Baton Rouge (spelling?) in the spring and I can't wait to get a chance to go and explore that area of the US a little more.
As for the pets, I grew up in a household with 9 cats, 3 dogs, two birds, at one point 27 rats, a chinchilla, numerous guinea pigs, a gecko, and I can't even think what else. So in other words, not weird at all ;). I've limited myself to two dogs and my trusty gecko now.
I'm sorry about your heart. I hope you are doing okay now. Goodreads is definitely a good way to take it easy (I know I spend WAY too much time in here).
Anywho, thanks for joining! :)

51124 Nobody's posting in reading talk! So I'll just talk to myself. Right now I'm reading Push/Precious. I'm not sure exactly which one I'm reading. The cover has a picture of the movie on it, but also says that both Push and Precious are included.
Anywho, it's quite good regardless of what it's called. I put off seeing the movie for a long time (usually the movies that get all the hype are HORRIBLE), but I was bored, and stuck in dreary New York, so I watched in on Netflix instant play. Let me tell you, that movie is MESSED UP, but really, really good. So, thanks to my muffin cakes, I was reminded that the movie was based on a book that she had checked out of the tiny trailer library near us. Soooo now I'm reading it. It is INTENSE. Like camping...sorry, I just can't help the word play.

51124 @ROB lol thanks for humoring me ;)
@Laura ok good, if it was like, in Canada or something, then I'd feel really dumb, and everyone would be like, "Why would we want to read a book by her? She doesn't even know where Estonia is."

51124 Of course. I'm absolutely horrible at explaining my books, so I'm just going to go ahead and copy and paste my book descriptions ;):
Xoe: Alexondra Meyers, known to her friends as Xoe, had a normal life.

Accidental Ashes: Last year Xoe's life was turned upside-down. Things haven't improved much. With the lives of her friends at risk, Xoe forgets to worry about another life...her own. With the reappearance of a face from her very distant past, and a random string of abductions to deal with, Xoe has to fight to keep things together. Even if 'together' is a far cry, ahem...howl, from the norm.

On the subject of Amazon, I LOVE Amazon. I don't even try much for regular bookstores. Though I do get bookstore orders on a regular basis, Amazon is by far where the majority of my sales come from. Now with how easy they've made Kindle, I went ahead and put both of my books out as ebooks as well.

whew, long post.

51124 @Heather Sometimes I take bits and pieces of people I know to make up my characters. My main character is quite a bit like me, but with a few aspects of others. I'd say more than personality, I take my character's reactions to different situations from people I know.

@Laura I really have no idea where my inspiration comes from. Sometimes I'll sit at the computer and have nothing. Sometimes I'll be able to just start typing, and I'll continue typing for 5 hours straight. I think I become more inspired when I have more time for myself. If I go out hiking on my own with nothing else to think of, things come more naturally than sitting down and trying to think. Get rid of all of your distractions (I can only do this by being physically out of reach of them), your mind will automatically fill the void.
Hope that helps, I sometimes tend to babble.

51124 Yay I have group members! Nice to meet everyone. I guess I'll clarify that my middle of nowhere is about 30 miles north of Silver City, NM.
@Lianne Done!
@Kimmy awesome! I was soon to go insane with only my dogs to talk to.
@Heather you are on my list of first to be mocked now.
@Laura holy crap Estonia?! I probably shouldn't admit this, but I'm not even entirely sure where that is.
@Misty I love shoes and books, but books definitely win out, so...high five!
