Halfway through the book, through chapter 21.

(view spoiler)[I'm worried that Emmy will turn out to be Leah's alternate personality. I hope not because I feel like that's been done too much and it would be very predictable considering that was my first thought. There's no record of Emmy anywhere. Is that because she lives off-grid a lot or because she's not real??
Either way I'm thinking Leah will likely end up being the main suspect for killing the guy they found in the car. I still don't know how all of this is going to fit together. We have a guy who keeps calling her and is the main suspect for killing a woman who looks just like Leah (did he keep calling her because her "Emmy" personality was into him?). We a have a potentially missing roommate and now her dead ex-boyfriend.

And what exactly was Leah's horrible sin at the previous newspaper? She made up a source. Well she basically made herself a source. I don't know. I'm intrigued. I just hope Emmy isn't Leah. (hide spoiler)]

Review

I've started this today.

I picked it because of the colors on the cover (I need them for Wheel of Feels). I've read 2 other Megan Miranda books: All the Missing Girls which I rated 4 stars, and Such a Quiet Place which I rated 3. I honestly remember almost nothing about either of them and even my short reviews didn't jog my memory.

So not a super memorable author I guess but decent enough mystery/thrillers that I keep coming back.

(view spoiler)[This automatically gets returned to the library tomorrow so I'm trying to finish it today but ever since the incident with Celia I've felt sick every time I start listening again. I think it's harder on audio because I can't just skim over the horrific parts, and the narrator is very good at conveying the grief.

I am very concerned Celia won't make it through this. I know what happens to the kids at the school of course but Celia is still an unknown and I really don't want to read her mother's recollection of her death if that's what happens. On the one hand I feel like I need to be home with my kids when I finish this so I can immediately hug them but on the other hand I will probably be a mess. Oof. (hide spoiler)]

Cordova's movies (view spoiler)[reminded me of those someone creepy experimental films like Un Chien Andalou or even the VHS in The Ring. No desire to see Cordova's films for me. Especially if the deaths and stuff were real. (hide spoiler)]

I will say I've been guilty of not returning ebooks right away because nowadays it makes you go into your amazon account and delete it from there (if reading on a kindle app), which I sometimes just forget to do if I'm not in front of a computer!

I've finished. I really enjoyed it! Short review most of which is a short synopsis for my memory.

Do we want to continue the series next month?

(view spoiler)[This is so hard to read. I knew as soon as they had another child that Kevin would somehow hurt her. This whole section with the drain cleaner has made me sick to my stomach. And I'm sure he did something to the elephant shrew.

It's a very good book, but I really don't want to pick it up anymore. I will. It's just rough. My kids are around the ages that the kids are during this incident. While I would never worry about my son doing anything to hurt his sister, it makes me sick to think of poor Celia who trusts and loves her big brother so much and then he hurts her that way.
