I'm from Vancouver Island, Canada, currently living in Araçatuba, SP,Brazil.

Marley and Me was a book first, which everyone but me probably knew. I had heard a lot of buzz about the movie but didn't get to the cinema to see it. So, when I ran across the book I decided to read it instead. Bad idea. It's so poorly written I couldn't get past chapter 4.Later I tried to watch the movie, but much the dialogue was lifted directly from the horrible book, and I was so irritated by it that I had to quit.

there are a few of the plays I haven't read and/or seen performed. I guess what I am missing is the histories. any suggestions about where to start?

The only one I've ever heard was in a book by (I think) Terry Pratchett: as funny as . . . a very funny thing.

I know of at least one English teacher who regularly assigns this book in grade 11. The kids respond well to it, as they are pretty sophisticated readers by that age. I applaud this teacher for giving kids something new and fresh to study, instead of the same old tired stuff.

I'm trying (again) to read
The Pickwick Papers, Volume II, having given up on it twice before. It's the only Dickens that I would classify as a monster.
A Room with a View and
Where Angels Fear to Tread by E.M. Forster are great reads and both very short.
