If you love Kristen Ashley's books, you WILL love this one. There's no two ways about it. Let's start with Jack. Jack... *swoon* I loved him from the first time we meet him in the book, right up until the end of the book and that love only grew the more I got to know him. I really didn't want this book to end and I have to say, it's been awhile since I've thought that about a book. Damn it, I NEED more Jack. Please C.P.?? Can we have more Jack??

"Sweetness, I don't give a fuck if he's pissed or inconvenienced, you kiss me like that again and I'll make the whole fucking town wait."

Jack is alpha to the fucking extreme - just the way I LOVE my book boyfriends! Well, he is the Sheriff after all. And, now I think I have a thing for law men! I'd forgotten how sexy they could be in all their alpha glory.

"Jesus, what are you doing to me?" he whispered.
"Nothing," I gasped, when his tongue circled my ear.
"Baby, if that's nothing, you're gonna kill me when it means something."

Now, moving on to Jenn. She was just the exact right mix of sassy, independent, strong and vulnerable that I adore in a female character. She didn't annoy me at all and I connected with her instantly. Perfect!

"You take your job as my oppressor too seriously."
"I take my job as your man extremely serious and the sooner you start listening-" She cut me off, grinning and rolling her eyes.

There are so many quotes I could share with you because I highlighted so much of this book! This is my favourite read of 2014 so far! I can't recommend it enough to you!!

If you're looking for a great read with a HOT and sexy alpha, a sassy gorgeous woman, some suspense and some steam - this IS the book for you!! ...more

3 stars (because of the kick-ass epilogue)

I liked this story, but I can't say that "I loved" it (I really wanted to).

This story just didn't seem to grab me and make me not want to put the book down until I finished it, or couldn't see straight (whichever came first).

The author's writing style and characters are similar to Kristen Ashley.
But, in my opinion the author went a little too overboard with Jack's "bossiness" to the point were "I" wanted to tell him to "fuck off" because he was being suc ...more

3.5 Really enjoyed this, found it to be a quick & easy flowing read. This author has a way of telling a story! Enjoyed the characters, really only had a doubt about the who done it! Now in saying that there are a few scenes I did voice out quite loudly "really", meaning a few over-the-top scenes, but I would recommend this this read & I will look forward to other books by this author. ...more

4 Stars and highly promising debut rom-com-mystery read.

I almost always stay away from "plot summaries" when I do a book review. This is perfect example of why. What was promised was delivered and I knew what I was going to get out of the storyline --> I little mystery & romance. GOT IT and thank you very much! What I didn't expect and I SOOO loved was the comedy, primarily provided via the dialogue and interaction between Hero and Heroine.

For me, this book was all about the characters. Jack "F 4 Stars and highly promising debut rom-com-mystery read.

What I didn't expect and I SOOO loved was the comedy, primarily provided via the dialogue and interaction between Hero and Heroine.

For me, this book was all about the characters. Jack "F$#@?&*" Gunnison stole my heart is most definitely one of the premier Alpha Man-Whore's around. Yes we know he's bossy without good cause (lunch is simply lunch sometimes and doesn't always = lifelong mating)-->Yes, he claimed Jenn in a way that only a true alpha can, but he's also sweet and not all a total a$$hat.
As for our heroine, to say I liked Jenn is an understatement. She is sassy and fun-funny and although her antics and disregard for Jack's "directions" were at times completely idiotic, it was those actions are what made the plot--> The who-dunnit and why and how to do we not end up dead too.

Something I rarely comment on is the err, "intimate" scenes. I thought they were superbly written which is the only reason they stand out to me. The chemistry between Jack and Jenn was undeniable and although Jenn had her reservations (who wouldn't once you knew about the 37+) she followed her instincts with Jack - now sometimes her instincts were off or she disregarded(the mayor), but again, all for the sake of the plot.

There were many character traits that really made this novel for me and for some reason, weird ones stuck out to me. Jenn's reaction to stress, i.e.get out and burn off the adrenalin with a crazy barefoot run in the middle of the woods at night, seemed like something I would do. I felt the need to get and burn off the adrenalin too - maybe its' the air in Colorado?

This is a very promising debut novel. I will definitely be reading future books by CP Smith. A thoroughly enjoyable rom-com-mystery read. ...more

This is a wonderful story! A heroine who's not 20 something and my favorite kinda bossy alpha hero. Start with a new beginning, suspense, red hot sex and investigating an you get a well rounded romance with something for everyone. This is C.P. Smith's first effort and it is a great one. Wonderful read! Read it in under 48 hours. Took a day off to do laundry... finished book, laundry unfinished. C.P. Smith can I tell my kids it's all your fault that they don't have clean socks? Yup!
I went to rate my book A Reason to Breath( spectacular by the way) and look what I found! Awesome GR friends raving about another book that you've just released!!!' I'm now sitting with an hour to spare "I'm waiting on my kid at his band camp" great excuse but laundry still not done. Oh well.....here ...more
