I'm constantly impressed by Sylvain Reynard's writing style. Always extremely detailed, and with such a vivid imagination, the author transports us to the underworld of Florence with great ease. Bringing Gabriel and Julianne was a genius move. Fans of the Gabriel's Inferno series will rejoice the first time they see Gabriel's name in the story. The Prince ...more

What a great little escape, diving into the world of The Prince, Sylvain Reynard's prequel novella for his new series The Raven. I’m not usually one for paranormal, but I’m finding more and more that skilled authors draw me into this “other world” experience and I’m most often pleasantly surprised. It’s quite fun to compare the traits of Vampires through the fictional world. One thing is for certain, they appear to be just as emotionally diverse and crazy as humans.

I’m not usually one for paranormal, but I’m finding more and more that skilled authors draw me into this “other world” experience and I’m most often pleasantly surprised. It’s quite fun to compare the traits of Vampires through the fictional world. One thing is for certain, they appear to be just as emotionally diverse and crazy as humans.

The story of "The Prince" is built upon two main storylines; The Prince defending his city/domain from siege by a regional rival, and The Prince and his deep grudge against Gabriel Emerson. As "The Prince" fights to retain control of Florence, his revenge upon the Emersions is thwarted, at least for a short time. The Prince's abilities as a vampire, things such as mind control, having great physical strength and speed make him an interesting threat to Gabriel, and his reasoning for wanting revenge seem a little extreme. But if I’ve learned anything about vampires it’s that they most certainly have a different sense of what constitutes injury and how to dispel justice .

The story interconnects with some scenes in Gabriel's Redemption, and I found myself seeking out these moments (a.k.a. re-reading parts of the GR) just to remind myself of the state of Gabriel and Julia’s relationship at the time. When The Prince’s describes Julia’s “scent”, I found I just had to try to figure what he was going on about. While I’m not a fan of The Prince (and I can’t imagine many readers will be) his story is intriguing and I’m interesting to find out why his grievance against Gabriel justifies certain death. However his almost human emotion towards Julia are strong indications that he’ll be swayed as he attempts to extract his revenge. Before reading this you really should have read Sylvain Reynard’s “Gabriel’s Inferno” Trilogy series, but if you haven’t, now is a great time to start. The Raven (The Florentine #1) is scheduled to be released early February and shows promise that we’ll get to know more about "The Prince".

Sylvain has captured my attention again with “The Prince”. This is the prequel to SR’s Florentine Series and book one “The Raven”. I was completely enveloped in the world of the Prince of Florence. It’s the old world of Italy (The Florentine Series) interlaced with new world (Gabriel's Inferno Series). I loved the tidbits and interactions of the Emerson’s with The Prince, even when the situation seemed dire for one of my most favorite couples.
