Wow... This book is intense. It starts out startlingly sad. But Sela is no pushover. Though her horrible experience has impacted her terribly, she has a plan. That plan is REVENGE! But when she meets Beck, the sweet alpha male who's best friend and business partner is her nemesis, she struggles with what to do. Does she go forward with her plan, hurting the man she's falling for, or does she let it go and try to live a happy life?

Oh my, Sawyer Bennett, you really went hard with this one!

Let me first start by saying that this is a trilogy and it ends on a bit (read: HUGE) of a cliffhanger. So, if you aren't into that, wait until all the books in the trilogy are published to read. But, man is this book good. I could not put it down. I was shocked at how much I became entrenched in this story. When I read the first line, I didn't think I would get into at all.

I loved this book. Truly loved reading and experiencing this book. I have to admit I have never read a Sawyer Bennett book, though I have several on my TBR list, however, a fellow reader said I had to read this. And let me tell you, I am so glad she did. I could not put this down. I found myself reading this wherever and however I could. I needed to find out what would happen next. I love when a book grabs me from the start and never lets me go. This book was like that for me.

Very simple.

Sela Halstead lost her innocence in the worst way possible and at such a very young age. Tormented by the memories, she is only going through the motions. She is striving for normalcy, even as it escapes her. She finds herself constantly at odds with herself and being her own worst enemy. She wants to move forward, but not knowing who did this to her haunts her every thought.

Then one day she catches a glimpse of a tattoo one of her attackers had while watching television. And just like that she has a name. That name belongs Jonathon Townsend, one of the founders of the very popular, The Sugar Bowl website, and millionaire. Now all she can think about is revenge. This man was a part of what destroyed her. She wants to destroy him and his friends. And so her plan for revenge begins to take shape.

What Sela did not count on was Beckett North, JT’s business partner and friend. Though Beck was the brain behind The Sugar Bowl, he does not partake in the service as JT does. He enjoys women and loves his confirmed bachelor status. He does not want or need to change this. Or so he thinks.

Though Beck enjoys the company of a woman, he does not see commitment as a necessity. Then he runs into Sela and finds her refreshing, charming and a bit innocent. And completely irresistible. As they begin to get to know each other and spend time together, Beck start to drops the walls he has always kept around himself. Even as he feels Sela holds something back.

Sela is a bit lost and sees herself as broken. She was so brutally attacked; she has no “normal” to compare as she spends time with Beck. Does she move forward with her plan or does she open herself fully to Beck? Beck on the other hand has never wanted a woman established in his life, but in Sela he sees something different and finds himself opening up more than he has before.

With secrets and doubts, can these two move forward? I found this story so refreshing and really enjoyed it. It is a contemporary romance, but with some added suspense that adds so much. I cannot wait until the next book is released and we get to find out what comes next.

I would highly recommend this book. It is so worth the read. I will be counting the days to the next release.

So I just finished this book. I need the rest. It was a very good book. I was shocked that I would Iike this book. I am sad for Sela. I am postal [can we still say that. Probably not. ] so i am Sela'ing over this cliffhanger. Straight Sela pissed.

Beck is an alright guy. You made me like him and then in the end I wanted to throat punch him. That ending was a true, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

JT can kick rocks and suck a nut.

Sela was raped when she was 16, by 3 men unknown to her. All she remembers, is a tattoo of a phoenix. She vows revenge, grows up hard, emotionless, scared of true emotional intimacy. While this book immediately starts out dark and heavy, I was very quickly captured by Sela. She had a horrible thing happen to her and when she finally finds out who her tormentor was, she vows on revenge. What she wasn’t counting on was Beckett. I enjoyed their chemistry and the way he brought her out of her shell. But this ending... looking forward to the next book!
