I love the format of these books, they truly live up to their name of "active fiction" and Heidi Kling does an amazing job working within this format. The Gleaning is the follow up to Witch's Brew in this new format of action fiction serialized books. For me, it gives me a bit of what it must have been like for people who read the serialized fiction in the 1900s i

Heidi R Kling really stirs the pot with this spellbinding sequel to Witch's Brew. All the stops have been pulled out and while I was not as crazy as to the drama that went down for part of the book, all in all, it was a pretty fine sequel.

After the ending of Witch's Brew, I was really intrigued to see where the story would go. Some elements of the plot in The Gleaning, I really loved, others I was not as crazy about. Some of it seemed to be a little too dependent on teenage drama and it

I would like the thank the author for offering me a copy of The Gleaning in exchange for an honest review

The Gleaning starts off right where Witch's Brew left us... and I love it when a story jumps right back into the action without missing a beat. I had so many questions about the curse, the warlocks, doppelgangers, and well just about everything by the end of book 1 that I was happy to be able to start the second book right away!

After reading book 1 I had a better idea of what to expect with t

Witch’s Brew (Spellspinner’s 1) left us with a steamy and heart-wrenching cliffhanger. Well, The Gleaning picks up right where we left off. And thank goodness for that because things are getting SERIOUSLY questionable in Melas County. On the eve of the gleaning, Logan and Lily struggle to not only trust each other but to figure out their parts in the world around them and this fated prophesy. Kling does a great job of endearing Logan and Lily to the reader and frankly her breathtaking romance sc ...more

This is the second book in the series, and I decided to take a different approach. As in the first book, this story is told with a special twist – an interactive experience akin to those “choose your own adventure” books from your childhood (or MY childhood at least. How old am I again??). Anyway, last time I felt the need to reread the story, to find out what happened with all the other choices. It affected my enjoyment of the story. So THIS time, I just went through it once. It is driving me N ...more

I read The Gleaning on the heels of Witch's Brew because I could not get enough of the story. I love tales of magic and strong women coming into their own or being charged with a higher cause. In the Gleaning, Lily has both and she takes on the challenge like a true leader. Her connection with Logan is electric, a yin and yang dynamic that makes the reader believe in soul-mates. As these two star-crossed lovers struggle with evil and their own misplaced loyalties the story unfolds magically and ...more

The second book to Heidi R. Kling’s The Spellspinners of Melas County, The Gleaning, continues the story of Lily and Logan. Raised to fight each other and keep a balance between light and dark magic, the witch and warlock are meant to be enemies instead of lovers. Author Heidi wastes no time in seemingly continuing where the first book ended and presenting an action-packed start to the second installment. Sequels give room for more character development and readers will definitely learn more abo ...more

I enjoyed Witch's Brew and was excited for The Gleaning. It surpassed my expectations. Without giving too much away, there's a dark and a light version of The Gleaning both well-written. I especially love the scenes between Lily & Logan, not to mention the battle at the Stones. The interactive elements do not disappoint, and neither does some of the neat things that Heidi does with text. ...more

Witch's Brew's sequel both horrifies and delights me.
Bonus stars for JUDE.
(Pssst: make sure you read both paths.)

good 2nd part to the series. full thoughts to come about logan/lily

This is the 2nd adventure where you choose what happens with Lily and Logan. Its starts off with Logan and Lily having their star crossed romance tested in different ways . Lily learns more family history. Logan learns more about the school and his uncle.

This was a good adventure , and learning about the witches in Melas. Logan & Lily is tested by outside help. Someone has gleaned both Logan and Lily. We also met Jude , and lear
