I didn't like the book through the first part. I thought the writing was not very good and somewhat condescending. As I got into the 2nd part, I found the writing to be improved.
I now know the first part, which was about the girls' personalities and lives, was written more in the lighthearted style of the times, focusing on their fun times at work and after work, before the radium poisonings affected them negatively.
