When people think of rainforests the Amazon is the place that immediately comes to mind, it does for me. But did you know that this country is also a rainforest nation? We are, and we have what is called temperate rainforests, these exist in the latitude bands between the tropics and the poles.

I enjoyed the book and think it's highly original, timely and a valuable addition to the literature on British habitats, as well as containing a generous amount of campaigning energy and guile. My only quibble is that it's another book which feels a bit like the author is in a secret club (see also Monbiot, Macfarlane) which guards these secret places; and the only way to access them is to have an expert take you there.
