Interesting premise with 3 authors creating connected characters in a series. There was definitely a different 'voice' or style to each author's writing, but I found I liked them all.

The stories each had a touch of fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, fbi-agent, and paranormal tied together to keep it fun.

This book was more enjoyable as I realized there was continuation book with Hell-Cop 2, and I had to go out and purchase to see how it continues with the same three authors. ...more

I enjoyed these stories. They were fun and complete without being loaded down with trying to establish the world. All were clearly linked together in a simple manner and built upon each other. The world building was really well done in a smart way that kept from over explaining anything while still making sure you had a clear idea of everything.

Next of Kin ★★★★★
I think this might have been my favorite of the stories. The world was set up very well here, and you immediately felt Jay's isolation f I enjoyed these stories. They were fun and complete without being loaded down with trying to establish the world. All were clearly linked together in a simple manner and built upon each other. Next of Kin ★★★★★
I think this might have been my favorite of the stories. The world was set up very well here, and you immediately felt Jay's isolation from people and Brian's naivety. To never really be able to have anyone touch you for fear of burning them would seem like the most painful curse in the world. It made sense why Jay had gone so completely away from his families normal undertakings to step into the world as a cop. Brian and his relationship was really sweet to watch grow. For all his innocence Brian is smart and learns quickly. I really enjoyed watching him figure things out in this big bad city as he tried to discover who his father really was while dodging big mean demons sent out after him.

Red Sands ★★★½
I enjoyed this story but didn't love it. I think because I never really felt too much of an emotional connection between Michael and Argent. Accepting them as a couple was ok because they had a history but it felt kind of presumptary. I think I liked the mystery more than the couple here. Michael spends his life traveling to different worlds and researching different demon species. He's making a name for himself in anthropology. But on his most recent return the dead body of his cousin showing up in his portal has him on the hook for murder. Unexpectedly running into his one night stand from his vacation in the lead detective for the case has Michael's world spinning.

Touching Sparks ★★★★★
May not have liked Moran's attitude in the previous stories as a minor character, but I liked him here. I enjoyed his yearning for James even as he held himself apart. Of course James would do anything to impress the cop he's had a crush on for ages and going undercover in his journalistic pursuits to break up a venom ring works for him. His photos have almost cracked the ring, giving Moran all the evidence he needs to bring them down except a clear picture of who the ringleader is. But James thinks he's got it now. Having assassins sent after him though is the last thing he expects. These two quite clearly care about each other even if they've never acted on it. The action of the story just makes them step up to the plate. Very enjoyable.

Altogether a really good series. I quite liked it. 4.5 stars overall. :) ...more

I really enjoyed this series of short stories. Astrid, Hale and Kimberling again impressed me with their work and I was instantly pulled into the world of the Hell Cops and their city. You know when you read by any of these brilliant authors it is going to be good and Hell cop was no exception I was instantly hooked to all of the characters and their struggles in the city.

Three different authors, three different styles of writing but the individual stories seem to flow seamlessly together. I loved all three of the stories, but the first story, Next of Kin written by Astrid Amara is my favorite. I'm looking forward to reading more from these authors and reading Hell Cop 2 ...more
