Not a light read by any means -- there's a huge amount of family tragedy threaded through this story, heartbreak and ruined lives in Kalani's backstory. Which is appropriate, when it's a story about confronting the ghosts of the past, both metaphorical and literal, in order to lay them to rest and move on into the future. Read when you want a deeply romantic childhood-friends story with non-cliché supernatural elements and a dose of sorrow to heighten the sweetness by contrast. ...more
