I enjoyed many things about this book, including the fluid and atmospheric language, the fact that it was bittersweet without becoming maudlin, and the interesting characters. I also liked the little bits now and then that subtly remind the reader that the story is set over 20 years ago. The way the main story was framed by prologue and epilogue also worked well. I fell in love with this book, quick. I think because it mirrored myself and characters in my life. I appreciated the even flow of the story. No gimmicks, twists or turns, well, maybe one at the end. I'm a romantic at heart, but not a romance reader. Rick R. Reed may have just changed that for me. Thank you for such good characters and for a great story.
