This isn't my favorite of Megan Derr's fantasy worlds, but I still enjoyed the story a lot. I actually really liked Vell and felt for him as his world was turned upside down. The reason this fell just that little bit short to me is it felt like a lot of the events were place markers and we didn't get to go as deep into the characters and what was going on as we often do in Ms. Derr's books. I felt like I skimmed a little more on the surface than I wanted to and so it didn't tug at my heartstring ...more
