[close] In my view, this is a good book with many emotional and interesting details. But until the end, it was little bit disappointing when Bruno had to stay in a Jewish prison camp just because he was too childlike. Oh my gosh, I was sad. But in the end, it was still good.

(...) Vấn đề ở đây không phải là việc chúng ta có nhất thiết phải ghim sâu mảng tối của tội ác hay là để cho nó có cách tiếp cận nhẹ nhàng hơn. Theo tôi hiểu, sự chỉ trích bùng nổ là bởi thứ cảm động trưởng giả mà người đọc tự thưởng thức khi đọc câu chuyện của John Boyne. Tôi có thể hiểu vì sao những người thấu đáo tội ác ở Auschwitz lại gầm lên phản đối. Chiến tranh chưa bao giờ là câu chuyện nên thơ như Boyne đã kể.

Nhưng cũng có thể mục đích của John Boyne là để cho người đọc nhận ra ý nghĩa ...more

2/5 of the book, i thought about 2 stars. It only poked a bit interest of me when I unexpectedly knew the story was a bit historically related.
Half of it, it's 3.
The chapter prior to the last twos, it's 4.
And after closing the pages, I wonder if stars are worth to show how beautiful the story was even though the ending was expected. ...more

The ending is rather intense and distressing, but i guess it's the best twist of the novel. Wondering why Asa Butterfield looks so brilliant in Hugo (2011) and yet he looked so irritatingly dumb back then in 2008 when he starred this film.

Whether you read a book or watch its film adaptation first, it really matters sometimes! ...more
