Shelves: my-favorites, pleasantly-surprised, but-the-book-itself-was-amazing, lgbt, romance, sad-as-hell, short-and-sweet, royalty, unresolved-endings, enemies-to-lovers

So I might be one of the last person on the planet to read this book. Of course I heard about it - it lives on in infamy with its controversies and romance and dangerously uncomfortable tropes that make people cringe, but I'd say it's considered to be a cult classic for those who enjoy M/M romance and enemies to lovers stories.

Absolutely fabulous. Five star read. Like an easier-to-follow Game of Thrones. Fun turns and twists but all along a single plot line. Scheming and betrayal. And definitely a twist I didn’t see coming. Nothing is obscenely sexual but not recommended for younger readers. Elevated vocabulary. Not something to read while the mind is wandering.

2021 reread: Idk how to rate this but the character dynamics and tensions is just as good as I remember but it really is hard to stomach slavery and gratuitous rape...like the entire context of the book makes it hard to enjoy the characters and relationship

Not for the faint of heart, intense topics, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book, could not put it down.

Update: 2nd time reading the book, still loving every page.
