I loved Jean Kwok’s previous books and was really looking forward to this one. I appreciated the thought that went into crafting each character; how their word choice reflected which language they were communicating in.
But this book was a slog. I had to make myself pick it up and keep reading, and the effort really wasn’t worth it for me. I wanted to like this book, and it just didn’t do anything for me.
