What Members Thought
I read this as part of a group read, I listened to the audio-book.
The story of Charlie Gordon is a poignant and touching narrative that confronts issues of medical research, treatment of those with mental disabilities, and the relationship between intelligence and happiness.
In my own reading of this book I was struck by the barely explored themes around original sin. This is briefly touched on at the beginning but not really developed explicitly. (view spoiler)

This story is one that left me feeling.
Hopeful, sad, introspective, inspired, afraid, thankful... Flowers for Algernon will stick with me a long time because it so effectively made me feel and want to connect better with people. If only wanting made doing easier.
The ending impacted me more than I thought it would, and I wouldn't even say it was surprising at all , just hard hitting. This is the kind of book I am searching for when I read.
