What Members Thought

American is a nation of ideals. Big platitudes like justice and democracy. But we are also a people of acute violence, xenophobia, and selective humanity. As a child I learned about a history mostly cleansed of atrocity. Slavery was an abstracted idea. Discovery and expansionism, conquering of the midlands and west dominated American History. Not to say these are not notable aspects of our history, they are.
