Re-reading this book was like visiting an old friend with a great sense of humour! I fell in love with this series all over again from the very first page - the tale of Alex, the kickass halfblood heroine, and her journey, one that I will never, ever tire of :)

Okay, so this book is indeed a copycat of VA. Even some tiny details like the fact that Aiden reads a thick, old book as Alex trains, or the fact that Alex is Rose reincarnated. Gosh, even her description is exactly Rose's. But the obvious plagiarism wasn't the major problem with it. The problem is really the differences. For instance, Rose, for all her cockiness and bitchiness, was never too stupid to live like Alex. That was a major flaw in the story. Also Aiden is not half as awesome as Dimit ...more

I seem to have a knack for finding books that remind me of my favorite book series these days. There was The Testing that's like a combination off Divergent and The Hunger Games, Branded which reminded me of Shatter Me, and now this. Yeah, I know, I'm good at finding them.

3.5 – Not only is this VERY reminiscent of Vampire Academy--particularly at the beginning, but it also has some extremely predictable parts. I knew VERY early on that (view spoiler). I did like the story in this book, but the similarities to VA were unbelievably distracting (e.g. Alex (like Rose) had run away from school for mysterious reasons years before; Alex lived in a society where her “half-blood” race was 3.5 – Not only is this VERY reminiscent of Vampire Academy--particularly at the beginning, but it also has some extremely predictable parts. I knew VERY early on that (view spoiler). I did like the story in this book, but the similarities to VA were unbelievably distracting (e.g. Alex (like Rose) had run away from school for mysterious reasons years before; Alex lived in a society where her “half-blood” race was subservient to a “pure” race and expected to fight to protect them (just like the Dhampir and Moroi); Aidan (like Dimitri) was a swoon-worthy, kick-butt fighter who fought for Alex to stay at the school and agreed to personally train her so she could catch up with what she’d missed at school; the enemy (the daimons) sucked the life out of people and could change people to be evil like them (just like the Strigoi), etc., etc.). I was glad to finally see the story go in some new directions a little further into the book.

Alex bugged me a bit at the beginning with her crazy, reckless behavior (and when (view spoiler))--especially when becoming a mindless slave would be the price for her actions (!), but I did end up liking her as a character. I also really liked her relationship with Caleb--I liked that they were best friends and he wasn’t romantically interested in her (or gay!). That was very refreshing! I loved Aiden!! He’s probably my favorite character, at this point in the series. Seth is intriguing, but I do hate most love triangles, so I’m not overly happy about how this might go… :( And, WOW, there are some crazy obstacles involving both of these boys being with Alex!! I’m not sure I completely understand what could potentially happen with (view spoiler)? This is all rather confusing to me… Hopefully it's cleared up more in the next book.

This book also has some crazy, incredibly scary action--particularly at the end. Very tense!! I had NO idea what the characters would/could do next and how it would all turn out! And, I was VERY surprised about (view spoiler)! I also really enjoyed the swoony romantic moments :)

I’m planning to continue this series. Despite my issues with this book, I really enjoyed it and haven’t been able to stop thinking about the story/characters and wondering where it all goes from here. Hopefully the next books become even more unique and differentiated from VA. I do really enjoy Jennifer Armentrout’s stories, writing, and characters--she always sucks me in and keeps me anxious and excited to read more!

This book was amazing! I didn't expect it to be enjoyable at first, but i'm glad i thoroughly liked it.

i have never read a book this joyful. it was like reading another version of vampire academy all over agin but this one with a lot motr action, thrilling story and an awesome mythology.
the writer did an excellent job in creating the story and carrying it. the main character Aaiden was AWESOME. his expression, his EYE's (best features) were explained very very earnestly. i loves the whole n0-shit attitude of Alex and i just siply loved her. :P
