I absolutely loved Cinder, and despite warnings from many a respected Goodreads...er(?) that book two wasn't as good, I enjoyed Scarlet just as much. Now, they were two vastly different reads. Scarlet took a lot longer to really engage me, but it also had a much stronger ending, IMO.
I had some gripes. They were minor. I disliked the romance aspects of the book, thought they felt oddly handled, but they weren't in your face so they did nothing to detract from my enjoyment of the story.

Again, the concept itself was intriguing...the futuristic/fantasy fairytale retelling with the bonus of a (potentially) redemptive take on an age-old villain. But this reader ultimately found the execution a bit exasperating.
It started out with great promise. Somewhere in Southern France, seemingly far removed from the Eastern Commonwealth and the events of the first book, we're introduced to Scarlet Benoit--a fiery farm girl with a hoodie fetish and a missing granny.

Even though Scarlet wasn't as good as Cinder, I enjoyed it for the most part. Scarlet and Wolf were descent characters but Scarlet got on my nerves a lot. I usually don't like when characters are so stubborn to the point of stupidity. Scarlet's obsession in finding her grandmother became bothersome after a while and made her character sort of one dimensional. I think I only tolerated her scenes because of Wolf.

I actually liked Scarlet more than I liked Cinder! It's always nice when books get increasingly better! That doesn't always happen in a series! In this book we meet Scarlet who is desperately looking for her missing grandmother. She meets a mysterious fighter named Wolf. When she discovers that his tattoo is similar to the tattoo on the men that took her dear grannie, Scarlet enlists his help in finding her. The story of Cinder was left with that horrible cliffhanger so happily that story is als

After finishing Cinder, I liked this series but I wasn't hooked to it. Now I'm salivating with the rest of the fans for Cress, which needs to be released, like, NOW.
Scarlet was awesome. Plain and simple. It kept my interest the entire time and twice this week--which just so happens to be finals week--I stayed up later than I should have to continue reading. (I'm most definitely paying for it with headaches and tiredness, but it was well worth it.)

Intense!
I loved every minute of this book. Even though I created a, I-want-to-punch-you-in-the-throat shelf, (mainly for a certain wolf) grrrrr!
I am not even sure where to start. But why don't we go with Scarlet, since the book was titled such. She is a strong headed young women who's grandmother has gone missing. Scarlet is determined to find out why, and does not believe what everyone else has to say, that she wanted to disappear. Scarlet refuses to believe she would leave her alone. And she ...more

4.5 - Fantastic sequel to Cinder! SO entertaining and unique :) I LOVED the new characters: Scarlet, Wolf, and Thorne. They are all such unique personalities--Scarlet is feisty and determined; Wolf is hot, sweet, and sometimes very scary; and Thorne is SO hilarious, fun, and swoony! They are all fantastic! I also loved the old characters: Cinder, Kai ((view spoiler)

Goodreads Synopsis: Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may

Initially, I was frustrated that we didn't find out more about Cinder's situation immediately and I hated that this new girl, Scarlet, was getting the spotlight on her, but somewhere along the way I started to like her story arc a little bit more (though she remained frustrating for the most part). It was nice to see that Cinder still got parts for herself as well though, because every part was Cinder was fantastic, to be honest. She's just an excellent character (and I might have a soft spot fo

3.5 I loved it at times, but it got really slow in the middle and didn't pick up till all the characters came together. I liked Scarlet, but didn't really care for Scarlet/Wolf till the end. This book made me love Cinder more and I found myself wanting to just read her scenes. Captain Thorne made me love this book more than Cinder and I hope he has a bigger part in Cress, because I'm obsessed with him.
