Wow. And a snow day (with no school) meant I finished it in 2 days. This book was all I expected and more.
This book has been such a huge hit that it has taken me until now to get hold of a copy. The descriptions of the North Carolina marsh are wonderful and what I would expect from an author who is a naturalist, which is what attracted me to the story initially. The story of Kya, abandoned by her entire family at the age of seven and ignored and maligned by the small community she lives near, is both unutterably tragic but also uplifting.
