It's been a while since I've read an erotic historical romance that was this HOT and you know what? I LIKED IT!!!!

This book kept me interested and wanting to just keep on reading. I liked the story very much but must say that I liked the sex/love scenes even better.

I am pretty demanding when it comes to erotic romances. I demand the same amount of story, plot, and yes, ROMANCE as I would get in a mainstream romance novel with the addition of more frequent and hotter, more explicit and adventurous sex scenes. RARELY does an erotic romance deliver on my demands so thoroughly as to merit a 5 star review, but An Introduction to Pleasure: Mistress Matchmaker did JUST THAT.

What a scandalously pleasurable read! I was looking for a historical romance, and An Introduction to Pleasure met the bill beautifully. He is an widower of the ton. She is destitute, seeking a protector. He agrees to one month, training her to become an aristocrat's mistress. As I was reading this, taking in the angst and misery that Andrew and Lysandra were going through, I could not help but keep getting reminded that this story was very similar to the very first book given me by my grandmother: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. From Andrew's headlong plunge into depression that nearly cost him his life all the way to the way he placed his lost wife on a high pedestal, her maid who adored her mistress and who stayed on under Andrew's employ, even to the manor that takes the breath away of anyone who first sets eyes on it. It took me by surprise when I learned that his late wife's name was also Rebecca. However, by the last third of the book, it was already quite obvious that this is not that classic book. There were twists and turns in the story that divert radically.

Then I turn to Lysandra. No matter what situation she found herself in, she was still a lost child who was trying her best to survive the situation she was caught and trapped in. She was an innocent who is about to go through an erotic tutelage.

Now, for those of you who are familiar with me by now, you all know I usually lower my rating when I read anything on voyeurism or public exhibitionism - both of which are within the contents, and yet??? Somehow, Jess Michaels succeeded to make it read tasteful. There was none of the smutty, xxx or whatever else feel or tone to her scenes. Truth is, the scenes were very well and tastefully done. So no, I am not going to lower my rating.

Other than the fact that there were some Rebecca situations here, An Introduction To Pleasure is a pleasure to read and is not the classic Victorian story.

While some of the other reviewers had a point about this story being somewhat unrealistic for the time period it was set in, and normally I complain when books that are set in a non-paranormal world are unrealistic, I still loved this book. Maybe it's because it takes place two hundred years ago, maybe it's because so many of the books I've read lately were so very bad, I don't know, but this one grabbed me and held me to the very end. 4.5 stars. This was a great read - fast paced, loveable characters with unique quirky traits, great dialogue, sizzling hot sex scenes, with lots of surprises dropped in here and there. The supporting cast of characters really added dimension to the story. The sex scenes happened so frequently, after awhile, they no longer felt fresh and exciting.
