There is waaaaaaay too much hype behind this book, and that makes me sad because I went into it expecting to get one of the most amazing books ever. I really liked it, but I definitely had expected more. Also, Lila annoyed the shit out of me. Her character grew on me, but I just hated her so much to begin with that by the end I just formed little more than a tolerance for her.
I am definitely reading the next book in this series, but hopefully I'll like it a lot more since I know what to expect. ...more

An inter-dimensional urban-ish fantasy jaunt across 3 different versions of London.
Lilah and Kell are both interesting POV characters. Kell proves decent hero material--a cunning magic-wielder with no memory of his true family or identity, yet full of loyalty and a clear moral code. And Lilah is... cunningly ruthless (potentially redemptive?) anti-hero material.
Schwab's prose is effective, particularly in the description and dialogue arenas. The pacing is quick and steady. And I found ...more
