I enjoyed the Marian chapters a lot but GOD I hated the Hadley ones so much (the narrator for her sections grated on me so badly that every time we switched to her I rolled my eyes)

I think this book would have been closer to 4/5 stars for me if the entire Hadley section had been cut out. I found her deeply unlikable.

I could also have done without the Annabel “cabbage” section. 🤢

A tremendous book. You know how it will end from the very first page but oh, the journey to get there! I adored these characters so much. Hadley is learning about Marian while you get to read about her actual life, and you know so much more about her than Hadley does. Then there's a point where because of the nature of the story that switches and Hadley knows what the reader doesn't and ooooh it's just so good! If you are in the mood for an epic sweeping story with two well written female protagonists, this is the book for you. Wraps up neatly and the audio book is really well done
