Why shouldn’t monsters get a chance to tell their side of the story?

Well, they finally got an opportunity in the 1960s and 1970s, and I don't doubt this had something to do with the tenor of the times. Marginalized groups were finally shaping their own narratives, from Selma to Stonewall, and power brokers had no choice but to take notice.
