It seems that her life would be simple after Initiation day, or as simple as it could be in the wild chaos of Dauntless headquarters. However, competition among the Initiates, overheard conversations between faction leaders, and whispered rumours of the Erudite faction plotting against the Abengation quickly make her life much more complicated. Meanwhile, she has to hide her Divergence -- a diffference in her phychological makeup which makes her impervious to simulations and stereotyping -- and deal with her quickly growing feelings for Four, a Dauntless trainer with a mysterious past.

This book (and Insurgent) really raised quite a few questions in my mind. Why would society be divided by personality type, anyway? The way they view each other is almost like different species! The Erudite hate the Abnegation because they control the government and have information that they've kept from everyone else. The Dauntless are probably the least liked but most useful faction because they serve as guards for the fence around their city. Amity seems to love everyone equally and be happy most of the time. Candor really isn't mentioned much in Divergent, but (view spoiler)
Also, there's an immense use of "serums." They're used to create simulations for the Dauntless to overcome their fears, used for (view spoiler), and many other things.

Veronica Roth's worldbuilding is possibly the best I've ever read. She creates a world that's dystopian yet highly structured and seemingly perfect -- until the cracks start appearing. When I finished Divergent, I was immediately left craving more of this mysterious Chicago which is so unlike the one we see now. The sequel, Insurgent, is already as good (if not better, even) as its predecessor, and I have high hopes for the third one.

OMGOSH MOST FAVORITE BOOK EVER. The characters are absolutely amazing. Four is just, gasp, fangirling. I can read this book over and over again and it never gets old. Tris is such a strong character. And everything she goes through, she still holds on. It's amazing. Absolutely beautiful. :) ...more

With this book I never wanted to put it down. The main character Beatrice a.k.a Tris h.ad a very tough time when she had to pick which faction she would be in and that was because she is Divergent. I wish I could say more but I would be giving away too many spoilers
