Hold Me (Twist Me, #3) in Some Like It Hot!

Ok I could not read this trilogy without rolling my eyes. It was just so over the top.

yes it was a piece of fiction and yes we have an alpha controlling man but I have read this sort of captive book so many times I should have known better.

To start with the overuse of the words cute, cognizant and pet was one irritation (and there were more).

Having read the Krinar Chronicles in 2013 I should have know what was coming as there isnt a lot of difference in the plot and the alpha male.

So what didnt Ok I could not read this trilogy without rolling my eyes. It was just so over the top.

So what didnt work for me.

The characters - no connection, no feeling - nada.
the plot - overdone almost to overkill, repetitive throughout the three books

Lets start with Nora Leston. Good kid, didnt step outside of her boundaries, doesn't do drugs, doesn't drink (so we are told) and does'nt get into trouble - but this girl is so good that she doesn't blink an eye at using a false ID to get into a club at the age of 17 and downs a glass of punch like an experienced drinker (bearing in mind we have just been told that she doesnt "do" alcohol.

She becomes some sort of super Ninja going from never experiencing sex or an orgasm to having downright dirty non-consenusal sex and of course "its not her fault" and she "deserves to be punished" how many times did we hear that phrase throughout the trilogy. How many things can happen to this "good kid"?. She then has a miraculous recovery after having appendicitis , escaping another capture, killing a man without blinking an eye, she goes king fu when pregnant and also kills armed men. By this time I was actually laughing - yep I was because I found it hard to take in that this was the same good kid who wouldn't stand up to her abusive captor (husband) because she loved him.....and don't forget she is studying psychology so you would expect her to know better!

Julian Esguerra - an arms dealer he comes with the usual cliched description - handsome, built and damaged. Her enigmatic captor is cruel as he is beautiful and of course there is the "tender side" of him and she cant help being drawn to his dark and violent world and being the good kid that she is she instinctively submits to his violent ways.

Clearly this trilogy didn't work for me and I will be stopping here. For me it was just another predictable over the top story with various dark themes and lots of sex and an over the top alpha who was constantly hard.

So I closed the book thinking that I had just read a f**ked version of Russian Roulette except I couldn't keep a poker face. ...more

I didn't think I'd want to read "Hold Me", not because I thought it would be bad but because I thought it would be kind of "ho-hum". I was totally wrong on that and am so glad I read it! There was tons of action, lots of Julian being Julian (wink wink!) and Nora coming into her own. There was a sad part towards the end but the epilogue brought tears to my eyes. So worth reading!!! ...more
