Instant sparks fly when he enters the room and he decides that Kadence is just the kind of chase he's been needing to liven up his life. He stops at nothing, and I mean nothing, to get her in his bed. Even taking a knee to the boys gets him more excited and elicits winks in Kadence's direction. He does nothing slow. He's a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of man and Kadence is taken on the ride of her life. From the very beginning the steamy, electric, sexual tension radiates from them. They get off on defying one another, especially Kadence. After what's she's been through she is scared to let anyone in, and I don't blame her. But when Kadence's ex-fiance shows his face after leaving her for dead in a house fire three years prior, things start to get serious and dangerous really fast. After making sure she is safe Nix pushes for more, but dating one of her students parents is not something she wants to be known for, or letting Nix's son find out in case things don't work because he's having a rough time as it is. She's learning to come to grips with everything when Zane appears and is intent on causing damage and he doesn't care if she is the only one he causes problems for. Shit starts to get real entirely too fast and Kadence is stuck in the middle of war she never knew existed.

This was my first MC novel. Yep, I said it. String me up by my toenails now. That being said, I was a little disappointed in the lack of actual MC description in the book. I didn't say it wasn't good, said I was really excited and hoped to be sucked into this completely new world I had never read about. That didn't happen for me :( This story was smoking hawt though, revolving more around the relationship and people than anything else. I really wished that River had put a little more focus on things that happened in the story rather than telling them as an after thought. For example the party that Kadence attended. I went to the party. *scene break* well the party was fun. this, this, and this happened, oh yeah and she knocked a bitch out. I really wish I could've read through that. Nothing is hawter than when a chick stands up and stakes claim on her man. There were too many scenes like that that left me feeling like I was deprived of part of the story, like when a dvd skips through a chapter of a movie and you can't watch it. The chemistry between Kadence and Nix totally helped make up for that. Had it not, I would have to say that I would've rated this story 3-3.5 stars for lack of story to go with the plot. This story could've deff been a 5 star read had it had the meat to beef it up. And when I reached the end I was saddened at where it cut off. I wanted at least to the vows. When I read the last sentence I literally sighed, until I saw that the next book was about Holly and Sy. Thank goodness, because we were teased enough about those two and we didn't even get close enough to bite on that hook, not even a morsel.

Some of my fave quotes (and I have a lot from this book :) )

"He unlocks and opens the door and gestures me to walk through. I should say no, shouldn't even walk through his door, but my vagina is making all the decisions."

"Gathering more courage, I continue to tease him, "How about if you can last all through dinner, without your filthy mouth talking about my pussy, I might give you a taste of it." I wink and walk past him, hoping he doesn't see through the fake bravado I'm feeling right now. He follows me, coming up behind me, his heat at my back. "Game on, Kadence," he breathes into my ear. His hot breath prickles my skin. I'm not sure if betting against the man is wise; I wouldn't put it past him to play dirty."

""Nix,just because you've had your mouth on my pussy doesn't mean you own it," I blurt out and instantly regret it."

"You still falling in lust, Kadence? Or are you willing to admit you already fell?"

I would love put this whole part because I loved the entire scene, but I will hold back :) All I'm gonna quote is this: "Do I need to fuck you into a yes again?"

5 stars hot, 3 stars plot...so I'll meet in the middle and give it a 4. Thanks for a good read. ...more

I loved this story. It's a great read and story that pulled me in from the very beginning. The characters are awesome and I can't wait for more of them. I just bought the second book and am very excited to read it! I will definitely be following this series from now on I'm sure! ...more

I was given this book for the the May challenge. I love MC books but this book different than most since it revolved on a past story line and a child. That being said the dynamic between the characters was list filled from the start and it brought from romantic to hot very quickly. The female lead was a survivor which I thought was also interesting but it seemed a little contrived how all the characters seemed to know each other before the story began. That sort of annoyed me .
