From the moment the bearded and scarred duke met Alexandra on the platform of the train station, I was hooked. The main characters make this book sing. They’re well-rounded and people most readers would love to meet in person. A secret from her past drives the heroine while the Duke of Redmayne is also propelled by tradition and the constraints of his position. He intends to marry and beget an heir with one of the heroine’s best friends.

My heart was broken and healed within the pages of this book. When we first meet Alexandra, Cecelia, and Francesca they are residing at an elite finishing school for young ladies. They are united through high intelligence, high jinks, and secrets. Some of their secrets are shared, but some are just too painful. What a fabulous start to this series! Piers and Alexandra are two tortured souls, but find love despite the odds.

I will say the prologue is hard to read and some readers may have a hard time with it. It sets the scene for the story of Alexandra and her two friends though.

This book will hook you from start to the very last sentence which took me a minute to realize it tells you what to expect from the next book. I can’t wait for Cecil and Frank’s books. This is my first time reading this author, ...more
