Matthew de Clermont, Diana Bishop, Marcus MacNeil, & Phoebe Taylor
We saw Marcus and Phoebe fall in love in the original trilogy, that Phoebe made the decision to become a vampire, that Diana had the twins, and we knew that Matthew was Marcus' father.
Now we get to experience Marcus' life before he became a vampire and what occurred when he met Matthew and after. All of that while also experiencing Phoebe's transition and how Matthew and Diana are faring with the twins.

A quadrilogy?
I love this series and was so happy when I saw it become one more book than a trilogy, I gobbled it up.
I love the intertwining history and the furtherance of the story. Learning more about Diana and Mathew’s future, while learning about Marcus’ past.
I also thought the parallel between current time and the American and French Revolutions was stark and thought provoking.
I hope there will be another book after this one. There are so many paths of this story still to travel.

Adored this book. Loved the way it was written! It was great to catch up with everyone's story and see the twins in action! Please please please write more. Can never get enough!

I really enjoyed the original series, so this came as rather a disappointment. It's interesting enough to read Marcus's history and see how Phoebe and the twins are getting on, but there was nothing that gripped me about any of these storylines. No one was in peril, there was no big adventure, and even one character's hospitalisation was dismissed immediately with one sentence. Harkness can write and has proved she has interesting ideas. I hope this is just the set-up book for better adventures
