What Members Thought

This, as many other books, makes me feel like going back home.
I read this as a child, knowing nothing about it when I went on a school trip to a bookstore where we were supposed to choose a book to read for the month. My mom picked this one up since she had made some research about it recently and thought I might like it.
As a rebel kid, I instantly refused, but she bought it anyways.
And now I couldn't be more thankful for that because I ended up devouring it in a day.

I’ve heard so many great things about this book but was always hesitant to read it for some reason so when I came across the chance to start it, I thought, why not, I’ll give it a go! Wowowow so glad I did. It’s rapidly becoming one of my favourite books of the year so far.
The premise of the story is great, and set off on a strong start from the beginning. I loved getting to know the characters and the major cute burgeoning relationship between the main character, America and Maxon, the Prince ...more

Actually raiting: 3.5 stars.
It ended like that? i have so many questions!
But this book was better than i thought, the love-triangle is still there and i seriously wish it wasn`t. But i guess it is for the drama and exitement? I am not really sure what i feel about Aspen though. I mean i sort of get where he came from in the start of the book, but i wasn`t too happy seeing him again like that, like those things he said didn`t exactly matter? maybe it`s just me. Maxon is adorable, he might be a b ...more

My sister said The Selection sounded very boring to her, and I wasn't expecting it to be much. That's exactly what I got from this book: not much. In my opinion, this is a romance doing a bad job of disguising itself as science fiction. AKA Twilight, only with less conflict. (Did I just praise Twilight?)
I mean that! There's just no conflict, and the characters are completely static. It's absolutely predictable, and I just can't see how this became such a popular series.

I think this is a fine, sweet book.
I appreciate a genuine, pure-hearted, tenderfoot protagonist, and the presence of a love interest that is actually NOT a cliched, spoiled, womanizing jerk, is refreshing.
Personally, the issue might be that **I** am too old, and this book is too young in terms of the demographic it's oriented toward. But it's very much a tale of The Bachelor meets Cinderella. Much as I love romance, I found that I didn't appreciate--at large--the idea of any one person--even i ...more

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 (3/5 stars).
Who knew I was ever gonna read this book. Well clearly not me😂 and the biggest surprise is that I actually enjoyed this book😂😂 I may have some very complicated feelings about this book.
Is this a good book? No it's not the best book I've ever read or like a really good book but it's also not a terrible book. It is just filled with stereotypical cliche things😂 and it is soooooo overly dramatic. Like everybody else has said this is b ...more

PRE SELECTION: “Gosh, this book will be EXACTLY like the Bachelor and you know how I feel about the Bachelor. It’s all drama cooked up by some big TV channel to make audiences watch it and claim it to be real.
Also seriously how annoying is it to read another romance book with bitchy bullies who act all nice around the (in this case) Prince? Ugh. Give me a break. Also I bet that Prince Maxon guy or whatever his name is will be one of those “smooth, hot and sexy” guys who just can’t WAIT to lay a ...more

I forgot I had picked this up recently and finished the second half a few days ago. It's basically exactly how everyone describes it - cheesy, cheesy and did I mention cheesy? There are so many cringe-worthy moments, ridiculous names and please don't-situations but for some reason I will never fully understand, there is entertainment to find here as well. Maybe there is just some sort of comfort in a cheesy and predictable story next to all the amazing books out there with twists and turns you d

This book is a definite FAVORITE of mine! Hard choices, exciting characters, and a romantic adventure all in one book. I suggest if you haven't picked up The Selection , you should definitely read it to fall in love with the book.
