REREAD November 2019

It’s been almost exactly 7 years since I read this originally. I loved this series but never quite embraced book 1. Reading it years later, I’m sad that I didn’t understand what a masterpiece of world-building, character set-up, and true mystery this book is.

In short, I loved it. I did skim some of the detail again, because I already knew the ending. But I could appreciate so many of the Easter eggs the author planted from the very beginning (the mere mention of HELEN had m

This book fulfils every expectations I had and my wildest dreams as a reader.

The world building is amazing. I've been loving dystopian books since when I read Brave New World and 1984 as a student. In this book society is under the control of the Administration. Politics and bureaucracy are on one side, corporations are on the other side. Dissenting people are re-habilitated with a process that enters and changes their minds. Interrogation is a part of the investigation that breaks the will of t

Corporate sabotage. Murder. Virtual sex. Some real sex. Power-play mindfuckery.

Futuristic brain-orgasmo-tronic tomfoolery.

I was up and down and over and under with this book but in the end it's all about Val Toreth and Kier Warrick.

Guys who use sex as recreational unwinding after a long day at the office. Booty calls with no strings attached. A hardwired jockeying for dominance that makes the game for these two. They are worthy opponents thrumming on a constant thread of tension. These are not

What can I say? I feel totally mind-fucked.

I started reading with certain expectations which got repeatedly blown away. Most of Toreth's actions showed a human side, which I expected would be much more difficult to find. He seemed far more vulnerable and less in control than Warrick. Unexpected and threw me for a while.

But I do like their dynamics.

Re-read done: sticking with the 4 stars. when you've read the entire series before, you need to take a big step back in time and I wasn't really up-to-speed in the beginning. I found it difficult to connect with the underlying murder story. and the dynamics between Toreth and Warrick are so different at first! I was soo impatient, God! After a while I settled into the story and i got to appreciate it fully. From a thriller-detective POV this is one of the best i've ever read.... there are no sho ...more

- The MCs are totally flawed, especially Toreth. Still, I love him
- The worldbuilding is done with no info dumping and is perfectly believable
- The plot is amazingly good
- The writing is excellent
- There is a relationship, and the relationship is developing and getting better in the next books. Maybe just keep in mind that this is *not* a romance or a fluffy story.

The series is still a free read on Manna’s homepage:

Give it a try! And you'll get hooked ;-

Considering that this book can reasonably be described as a science fiction mystery with explicit m/m sex with bondage SM overtones, I doubt this book really appeals to the masses. However, if that description does not sound off putting to you, go for it. It's available for free online reading too.

Edit: I spent most of my reading time last week staring at my screen engrossed in as much of the Administration series as I could find online. I have upped my star rating to reflect what I think of th

Mind Fuck indeed!

It proved a difficult start, as I didn't read much about the series before commencing it (for fear of spoilers) so it took a while for me to understand the background and familiarise myself with the setting and cast. And I admit I was expecting a bit more sci-fi in terms of mind alteration or perception changes, conniving tricks meant to set me in the wrong direction.

But once it became apparent that was not the case and I got to know Toreth and Warrick better, I was hooked. Plen

My favorite m/m book series. No matter how many times I read it, it's still as hot.

2010-12-05 Okay, I'm starting my reread of this book series again, in preparation of writing a story for Yuletide.

Where to start with this one? First of all I love this whole series. It is a alternate world story that revolves around two characters Val Toreth and Keir Warrick. It takes place in a society with a highly oppressive government that the people are incredibly fearful of; as they should be. An arrest will land you in prison where you have zero rights and chances are you will end up dead after an interrogation that leaves your mind in shambles.

Toreth is one of the lovely people to lead these inter

Amazing. Fascinationg. Absorbing.
I know those words are rather hackneyed. But with my limited vocabulary, I can't come up with better adjectives.
At first I expected this book to be one of sci-fi, m/m romance. Well, that sounds a bit interesting, but not really eye-catching. However as soon as I realized how unique the main characters are, I could not let go of this book. Female authors's writings tend to drift on so-sweet-but-not-so-realistic m/m couples. Of course I don't mean ALL female author

This may just be my favorite series of all time. The quality of writing never diminishes. Mind Fuck, Quid Pro Quo, Games & Players, Control and Quis Custodiet (and soon to be book #6!) are all equally good. One of my absolute favorite themes is dystopian future & totalitarian governments. So I am in heaven with this story! The characters of Torreth & Warrick are amazing. I love them both equally & that is rare for me as I usually have a favorite. The secondary characters are just as well written ...more
