This was an excellent book. The title however is misleading- it is not about understanding pathogenesis of Streptococcus. Nor is it really one man's story. I have read two books in a row that have examined the past to make a point on current issues. This book looks at the first commercial antimicrobial and the lessons learned (or not) on overuse. The persistence of the German scientists along with the ability of sulfa to save lives with specific examples was fascinating. It is a really good read
