Skloot's style of writing is phenomenal. Able to weave an intensely interesting personal narrative with some basic but extremely informative scientific principles of cancer, she was able to produce a book that made her reader aware of the issue that have been present in our fight to understand and find a cure for many diseases, including cancer. As a science writer, my shelves are filled with books on. . .science. They are also filled with books on ethnic studies, so this was a dream. I am a very slow reader who is easily distracted, but could not put this one down. Excellent, excellent read. However, I did had a couple of issues with the book that precluded me from giving it 5 stars:

This book presents a touching portrait of the descendants of Henrietta Lacks, the woman whose cancer cells became the first cells to be reproduced indefinitely in a lab culture. I've seen it mostly shelved with the biology books at the bookstore, but the focus of the story Rebecca Skloot tells is more sociological than biological.
