I learned a lot about transgender life by reading this memoir. Although the narrative bogged down at times, with perhaps too much detail on some of her bar encounters, Feinberg very vividly portrayed the brutality and prejudice she faced in the time and place of her coming out. (Buffalo in the 70s.) I especially liked the chapters about her decision to move to New York City, flat broke but determined to be free. I would like to see a new edition of this book, with an epilogue summing up the last ...more
