Easily one of my all-time favorite graphic novels. Jerry Craft hit this one out of the park and I cannot WAIT to read Class Act! The first time I read this I had the book in hand, but today I listened to the audiobook version and was SO IMPRESSED! They had a full cast with sound effects that made the story come to life in a new and exciting way! It was a totally different and very entertaining reading experience. 12/10 would recommend.

This was a really well done graphic novel, and one I hope my daughter will be interested in reading. This was a glimpse into the life of a middle schooler that is new to a school where he is not the most common race. Shows clear examples of micro aggressions that cause stress to those they are directed to - based on the author's experiences. A worthwhile read.

The 2020 Newbery Medal winner, New Kid, is a marvelous graphic novel about being the new kid at school and not knowing how to fit in. Jordan is the new kid in 7th grade but instead of attending the art school of his dreams, he is attending the prestigious private school in which he is one of the only kids of color. This book does a wonderful job of touching on topics of race and identity and is a definite must-read for all ages.

I'm so glad I picked up this gem in my last Scholastic order. Craft did an excellent job of bringing awareness to microaggressions that kids don't always pick up on on their own. I definitely recommend this for every classroom library!

Excellent middle grades book. Absurd that it's being challenged and banned.
