“Memorial” worked about 50 percent of the time for me, which is impressive, considering I was ready to DNF after the first 80-pages (2 hours in audio).
I hated Benson and Mike. They embodied every stereotype of a dysfunctional gay relationship, that while sometimes on-the-nose, is not exactly fun reading. Not to mention, if you read Brandon Taylor’s “Real Life,” you likely already got your fill of that kind of drama.

Honestly unlike any other book I’ve read. The style of this was so unique - told in 3 parts, the first two from the perspective of one half of a couple and the middle part from the other. Chapter lengths vary and there are several jumps in time. I know some people don’t enjoy a nonlinear timeline but I like to put all the pieces together. A good book about a variety of relationships - romantic, familial, and some with people we simply encounter. Enjoyed it overall, some parts felt random.

3.5-4
I ended up liking it quite a bit, but I found the start rather clunky.

I think I missed the opening title card that announced the first part was “Benson,” so I was expecting him to be the narrator throughout. By the time the second half, “Mike,” began, I was over Mike, so I wasn’t in any mood to hear his side of things. The final coda, “Benson” again, was nice, but I wasn’t invested anymore.
