I initially picked up this book because I knew it was a Project LIT choice for the 2020 school year. I had seen several good reviews of this book but I was not prepared for how strange this book is. This is not your typical young adult novel. This story travels ...more

Jam has loving parents and enjoys spending time with her best friend Redemption in Lucille, a peaceful city that is safe and free from monsters of any kind. Vigorous book club debate on this — it felt like the (omniscient 3rd person) narrator seemed to endorse the extreme simplification of angels and monsters, but our readers felt like the events of the story demonstrated the futility of such binary moral labels.
