This beach read about a family in transition during a pivotal summer is one I had been wanting to read for a while because of my interest in the time period. While the plot was a bit predictable, I enjoyed the story and setting. This book provided a nice escape with plenty of twists and turns. What made it extra charming was that the author wrote this book as a birthday present to her twin brother, as they were born the day after the Apollo 11 moon mission launched. It’s not summer until I’ve read Elin. I enjoyed this novel set in 1969 (huge spoiler) and a family coming to terms with the Vietnam War, affairs, the moon landing, interracial relationships and more. If you’re looking for a quick read or a beach read, this one is a great pick!
