You'll be silent forever, and I'll be gone in the dark.

It was hard for me to pick a best book of the year. I’ve read a lot of great stuff and am in the middle of some strong contenders. However, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara sticks out for me not only for its fascinating true crime elements, but also for being a portrait into the life of a woman that I feel I could’ve known and probably been friends with. You can just imagine what this book could have been if the author had lived to finish it.

I think this is the best true crime novel I’ve ever read! Not too gory or too many facts, it incorporated her life and research styles along with those of the detectives she worked with. It's difficult to believe that in this age of technology and advanced science, an individual that committed dozens upon dozens of violent crimes has still not been apprehended. It's one of the most terrifying aspects of "Dark," and you're left feeling sorry for the many lives that were destroyed by this monster and for McNamara who died before finishing her research.

Well-paced and accessible, if you like true crime it is a must read. If you don't, you can probably skip it.

3.5 stars. I think this book would have been better if I had read it instead of listened to it. I think it would have been much easier to follow along. Nevertheless, it was a really well written true crime story and lead me to purchase outdoor cameras and lights for my house ;)
