I missed the Franklin Library online discussion of this book but enjoyed it on my own. This is Alyssa Cole’s first foray into historical romance, though she is prolific on modern day books. She is black writer who says in the afterward that she at first did not see how she write a happy ending in a novel about slavery in the civil war, since happy endings are what romance novels require.
