This book was educational about the terms surrounding racism, feelings of people of color, and how people of color may choose to respond to conversation about race. It was valuable to understand the current social climate. I recognize that I have privilege and need to “sit with the discomfort” this creates for me and others. I do not however agree with all aspects of her views. I struggle with her definition of cultural appropriation and how art appreciation differs from appropriation. Additiona

This is not a book to read and put away on the shelf. This is a book to read and reread and reread. To take things away from it and then step into action. It isn’t a comfortable read, and it’s a very important read. And an important reread. And critical - vital - to use as a guide toward taking action, not just talking.

This book was filled with very practical advice on how to talk about race, as well as how to respond if you are called racist when you aren't intending to be.
