I really don't know what possessed me last night—I went to bed a full hour earlier than usual out of sheer boredom. But that meant I was awake and staring at the ceiling at 5 a.m. Finally, I gave up, got up, put the coffee on, and picked up my Christie book of the month. It was a good choice.

I enjoyed this one a lot. Bundle is a great character and Inspector Battle is another one. I couldn't work out the mystery and was surprised at the outcome. I love when that happens.
There are a lot of characters in this story and listening on audible I got confused once or twice.
The 'bright young things' that are the centre of this story are interesting to read about. They really did coast through life as if nothing was ever going to change.

"The clocks were wrapped up and paid for. Mr Murgatroyd watched the cars drive away with a puzzled air. Very spirited the young people of the upper classes nowadays, very spirited indeed, but not at all easy to understand. He turned with relief to attend to the vicar’s wife, who wanted a new kind of dripless teapot."

It's not a good thing when the first words I think of at the end of a novel are: 'Oh dear!' followed by 'And it was going quite well'.
In current memes this becomes:
HOW IT STARTED
HOW IT FINISHED
I enjoyed most of the book and liked some of the characters but, in the last fifteen per cent, the plot took a wrong turn, the exposition lost its lustre and some of the characters seemed to have undergone personality transplants.

A Christie I haven't read. What a delight! Secret societies, social mores, and intrigue. Good stuff.
We get not nearly enough Superintendent Battle, but we get plenty of Bundle, which is fun. I have to admit, I was completely shocked by the end but as I look back, I guess I shouldn't be. That classic Christie twist will get you every time.
A very different feel than Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot. Superintendent Battle may be my favorite, or at least a close second to Poirot. 3.5 stars. ...more

Superintendent Battle blunders along in The Seven Dials Mystery. The story returns to The Chimneys estate complete with Lord Caterham, his daughter, Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, Sir Oswald, Lady Coote, and a huge cast of friends and servants. Two young men die mysteriously: Gerry Wade and Ronny Devereux. Bundle jumps into the hunt for the killer and picks up unsavory characters along the way. The crux of the matter seems to be espionage and discovering secret formulas. The story reminds me of The

Overall, I enjoyed this book, and it was fun revisiting a bunch of characters and the setting of The Secret of Chimneys. The Seven Dials Mystery suffers from some of the same pitfalls as The Big Four, but those shortcomings are mitigated a bit by Christie seemingly taking herself less seriously here. It's as though Christie realized after writing The Big Four that international espionage and mad capers just weren't her strong suit, and so she decided to revisit the genre with her tongue firmly p

This novel is one of Christie's espionage novels, which I have come to enjoy. Bundle and Inspector Battle are back at Chimneys and work sometimes independently and sometimes together to solve two murders and to thwart theft of an innovation poised to benefit both military and commercial interests. With energy and humor, Christie introduced multiple characters to keep me guessing right up to the unpredictable ending.
