Poirot sighed. ‘One should never struggle against the inevitable,’ he said. ‘If a middle-aged lady wearing sham Egyptian beads has made up her mind to see the famous Hercule Poirot, and has come up from the country to do so, nothing will deflect her. She will sit there in the hall till she gets her way. Show her in, George.’

After listening to The Sittaford Mystery on the drive TO a vacation destination, my daughter and I needed an audiobook for the return home trip. This is NOT one of my favorite Christie's, but it is one that she has not read, so we jointly decided on this one.
Plot point reveal below (although not whodunit)
We listened to around the first half of the book on the drive home on 1/1/17, and then she finished reading it upon our return. I kept up with the listen and finished it just this morning. There ...more

I loved it! Another one of her best. The mystery is intriguing, the characters interesting and even though I partly guessed what was happening I didn't get the way it was done. Apart from a brief appearance at the beginning we're nearly halfway through the book before Poiret comes into it properly.

I actually was enjoying this one and thinking that while it wasn't going to be my favourite Christie, it was probably going to end up being a solid 3 star read for me. Poirot didn't appear in any significant way until about halfway through the book. This was definitely not his finest showing - a bit too much egocentric swanning about for me but again, nothing that would put me off too badly.
And then.......THE SCENE. What the ever loving f***??

Agatha Christie loves to deal with mistaken identities like Shakespeare did in so many of his plays. Gordon and a few other individuals died in a bombing raid in London. The real Rosaleen actually died with her new husband, and her maid took her identity to claim the inheritance. The Cloade family depen
